Heirloom variety which produce medium to large semi flat bulbs. Best to grow from seed and will store well into winter. The sweet flavour makes them useful for garnishes and salads, with red rings showing clearly in the white flesh. If left to flower they are attractive to bees and other beneficial insects.

Growing Info:
Sow inside Feb-Mar in trays with fresh seed compost. Cover with thin layer of vermiculite or compost. Once germinated prick out into individual pots or modules and move to a coldframe or unheated greenhouse, to acclimatize to outdoor conditions before planting out to final position. Plant 30-40 cm apart in rich, fertile soil. Alternatively sow outside from late Mar-Apr, directly into well-prepared soil. .
Aftercare:
Harvest young for salads or wait until tops are brown and dry and harvest to store.
