Coriander Seeds

Coriander Seeds

This annual herb is well known for its use in Asian dishes such as curries and soups. The ferny leaves are mid green and are incredibly aromatic. During summer, branched wiry flower spikes emerge, topped with domed white starry flower heads. These develop into seeds which can also be used in cooking.

  • Further Information
Latin Name: Coriandrum sativum
Height: 45cm
Spread: 20cm
Growing Info:
From March-June, sow a few seeds per 20cm pot, or sow in rows 30cm apart, 4cm between seeds. Sow 10mm deep in seed compost or fine soil. Keep well watered and do not allow soil to dry out. Best sown where plants are to grow, but protect seedlings and young plants from frosts. Sow every 3 weeks for fresh leaves all season. Sowing Aug-Sep under cover will provide coriander into winter.
Aftercare:
Snip off the leaves complete with stalks as required. May need protection from slugs. Keep picking leaves and remove flowers to encourage more growth and prevent plant running to seed. If you would like to harvest the seeds for cooking, leave plants to flower, and harvest Sep-Oct.
